Group Project 101

Even though students are aware some of the ground rules of working in a group, it’s important to have several reminders to keep the group in strong spirit!

  1. Make sure everyone understands the project—don’t be afraid to ask your members questions! You guys are in this together.
  2. Determine each member’s strengths and divide up the work efficiently. Designate each member to their areas of specialities—whether it is graphing, making a powerpoint, or writing, allowing the member to work in their area of comfort can yield more fruitful outcomes. This can also help divide up the work equally.
  3. Use the tags! When looking through previous projects, use the tags on the bottom of the page to search for specific topics you want to focus on. This can save time by narrowing down the list to topics related to your’s.
  4. Use online tools like Google Doc! It’s important to establish communication within your group and Google Doc can help everyone to work on the project together simultaneously from different places.
  5. Schedule the next meeting at the end of each meeting. It’s hard to coordinate time through messages, especially when working in a bigger group. The easiest method is to settle on a time when everyone is present.
